Cheech & Chong's Love Machine

Art director Steve Kimmel brilliantly re-animated this iconic ride from the 1978 Cheech & Chong film Up in Smoke...my job was to upholster the seats and sun-visors in "fur".

Enchanted Dune

This short surrealist film was directed by Aygul Maksutova, based on the original dance/theatrical piece conceived and choreographed by Carolyn Krueger.  Ms. Krueger and I collaborated on the design of the Triple Goddess. I built it to be worn and danced in by 3 bodies.

Uzbek Peacock Dance Dress

The Peacock Dance costume was built for Bellydance Evolution's world touring show:  The Jungle Book. It had to be adjustable to fit a variety of dancers. The "tail" must move as a natural part of the dress when down, but have enough structure (but not too much weight) to easily be raised and manipulated by the dancer.

Strings Attached Bathtub

Original bathtub was collapsible (created for the puppet drama Strings Attached), so it had many hand stitched parts & details between the inside & outside layers. Final version stayed strictly upright. Frames built by Joe Seely & Evan Bartoletti.

El Corazon del Espantapajaro (Heart of the Scarecrow)

These pieces are gallery and performance artworks by Naufus Ramirez Figueroa, shown at LACMA. I restored and rebuilt many of the costume pieces for this work. Shown here are pieces I built anew, for new performers, adding new pieces (masks esp.) and design elements, whilst interpreting the artist's concepts for the artwork.

Inesita's Flamenco Dress

Creating a performance dress for the venerable flamenco dancer Inesita was a fun challenge; it needed to function as dance wear (allow full range of arm movement for instance), whilst being cut from non-stretch fabric. Moreover, due to pronounced scoliosis, each pattern piece was unique, for a custom fit.

Clockmaking

A few antique mechanical clocks serviced / repaired in recent times. A Gustav Becker wall clock, a French mantle clock, and an American kitchen clock were the subjects. Work ranged from simple clean and lubrication, to beat adjustments, to a complete re-bushing / rebuild.
